Yard Surfacing at Travis Perkins

Project Details

  • Repaired yard
  • Queen’s Park, London
  • Completed in two days

Project Description

This depot’s concrete yard was severely damaged – there were numerous potholes and even large sections of concrete which had become detached.

The entrance was very narrow, too, so the business had to close during the preparation and resurfacing process.

We arrived at the depot on a Friday, and began by planing off the top 40mm of concrete. We then filled the potholes with lean mix concrete, compacting that with a vibrating roller before covering up to 500mm away from the edge of each pothole with a hot bitumen polymer. This adds flexibility and creates a long-lasting, weather-resistant repair.

To prevent the repairs from sinking, we utilised a glass tex membrane to reinforce the area before resurfacing the entire yard.

For this project we used stone mastic asphalt (SMA). It’s commonly used on commercial projects due to its rapid curing time. Bonded with fibres to reinforce it, SMA is hard-wearing and sets quickly – sometimes in as little as one hour!
