Ramp Construction at Safestore

Project Details

  • Ramp construction
  • Luton and Cardiff
  • Luton depot completed in two days, Cardiff in three

Project Description

These Safestore depots previously used entrance ramps made of checker plates. We removed these and saw-cut around the area, before breaking up the asphalt for a flush finish.

A&MT Contractors built up the surrounding levels with asphalt, installing barriers and temporary walkways to keep staff and customers safe while the work was being carried out.

The material used, open-texture surface course, was selected for its anti-slip properties. A blend of asphalt using larger aggregate and fewer fines (also known as millings), it has a more open texture which provides more grip.
