The Benefits of Resin Bound Surfacing

Drainage & Weather Performance

The naturally porous surface means rainwater drains straight through with no pooling, even during heavy storms. Built to be weather resistant, it stands up to everything the British climate can throw at it.

Durability & Maintenance

Resin bound surfacing is extremely durable and requires minimal maintenance to keep it looking its best. Cleaning is as simple as a sweep with a stiff brush, or a quick pressure wash for tougher grime buildup.

Practical Benefits

For most residential projects, you won’t need planning permission, making it a hassle-free choice. Anti-slip additives can also be incorporated where extra grip is needed.

Our Process to Laying Resin Bound Surfaces

From the groundworks through to the finishing touches, we follow a 5-step process to build your dream driveway:

  1. We begin by excavating and compacting the ground, or base layer.
  2. A membrane is applied to prevent contamination between the soil and the sub-base layer. This sub-base is produced with a reduced amount of fines to improve drainage.
  3. An open textured base course can then be applied.
  4. Resin and aggregate is carefully mixed together in a rotary paddle mixer. This mixture is then transported to the working area in wheelbarrows.
  5. Our fully trained in-house tradesmen then evenly spread the mixture to the required thickness and level the surface using hand-held steel trowels.

Our team is dedicated to offering a flawless finish that meets your requirements.

As drainage specialists, we can make sure your driveway is built to efficiently drain rainwater. We can also add those finishing touches to personalise the look of your outdoor spaces, including edging to create boundaries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is resin bound surfacing the right choice for my driveway?

Our team of experts can offer their qualified opinion on whether this type of surface is the right material for your driveway, patio or pathway. If we don’t think it’s the right material, we’ll explain why and suggest a more suitable alternative. To arrange a free site visit with one of our experts, contact us today.

Do resin bound surfaces need planning permission?

When replacing your driveway, patio or path, you don’t need planning permission if you’re using a porous surface material, such as resin bound. Other materials this also applies to include gravel and porous asphalt.

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bond?

There is a big difference between the two, with resin bonded being when the resin used is spread across a surface with a loose material scattered on top, usually stone. Compared to this, a resin bound system where the resin and the loose material are mixed together first before being laid into place.

How long does resin bound take to set?

This is entirely dependent on a number of factors from the weather at the time of installation to the depth of the material installed. In many cases, if it is installed on a clear sunny day, then set times can be anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. However, if the weather is wet, then the time taken to set can reach anywhere up to 48 hours.

Another consideration is that before resin bound is laid, a sub-base is required. This needs to fully cure before the resin can be installed, which depending on the material, can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to as long as a month.

What happens when I arrange a site visit?

Our sales director will arrange a site visit to advise on the thickness of your resin bound driveway and discuss any extra requirements or finishing touches. These may include drainage and edging for boundaries. Once we have a better idea of what you require, we’ll provide you with a free, no-obligation quote.
